The Visit

The Visit

Based on Friedrich Dürrenmatt's 1956 satirical play "Der Besuch der alten Dame," the haunting musical features the work ofJohn Kander, Fred Ebb, and Terrence McNally.

Story:

Claire Zachanassian, the oft-widowed richest woman in the world, visits her hometown, now in a hopeless, dreary state. The townspeople hope that she brings money to help them with all their problems, and so she does - but it will cost them. She has returned with a mission of vengeance against her former lover, Anton, who impregnated her in their teen years and then gave testimony that forced her from town. The exchange is simple - Anton’s life for one billion dollars - but the town’s decision is understandably difficult.
